ABOUT

About reelVerity

Have you ever watched a film or drama and wondered whether a scene really happened? reelVerity begins with that question. It is a site for examining, with sources, how closely events and people in a work align with the historical record and which parts have been dramatized.

WHAT WE DO

From a work to the historical record

We connect works with real events, real people, characters, fact-checking notes, and related material. Rather than focusing on plot summaries or ratings, we focus on what is grounded in the historical record and what has been created for the work.

PRINCIPLE

We keep the evidence visible

We aim to provide publicly verifiable materials and sources when assessing information. We do not conclusively label a claim as fact or fiction when the evidence is insufficient. When new material is confirmed, descriptions and determinations may be revised.

SCOPE

Verification rather than evaluation

reelVerity’s truth-basis grades and Fact/Fiction determinations are not scores for the quality of a film or drama. They are classifications intended to explain where the historical record and a work’s story align and differ.
